Facial fillers are a great way to rejuvenate your appearance. Like with other cosmetic services, it is very important that you have a qualified physician performing these services, whether it be lip injections, cheek augmentation, filling in your nasolabial folds (laugh lines) or any of the other uses for fillers on the face. There a lot of different types of fillers available, so it is also necessary that your doctor has had the training to know which is best to use for you to get the look you desire.

The different types of fillers that are provided vary based on the area of the face being injected, and the patient’s desired outcome. The most commonly used dermal fillers are Juvederm, Sculptra and Restylane.

Juvederm – Juvederm is a line of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers that provides results that last 9 months – 2 years on average, depending on the product used and area injected. The different products in the Juvederm family can be used to treat different areas of the face, including lip injections, filling in lines and wrinkles and cheek augmentation.

Sculptra – Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid, and is more of a volumizer than a line filler.  It works well for facial hollowing from illness or genetics, and for restoring volume in the faces of individuals with a low body weight.  This product is more difficult to inject than some other, and it is also prone to bumps, making it extremely important that it is administered by an experienced doctor.

Restylane – Restylane is another line of hyaluronic acid fillers that has multiple products to offer. It too can be used to help wrinkles and folds, like the nasolabial folds (laugh lines), and for lip injections, depending on the specific product in the line. The results from Restylane can last up to 18 months.

During your consultation, your doctor should go over in detail what kind of results you are hoping to achieve with dermal fillers. Based on that, as well as an examination of your facial features, he or she will determine which types of fillers will be best suited for your treatment.
